Challenge 17 AGAIN!

OK I called this morning to check on my pin number and it turns out I didn't even have one. So I got one put on my account and went about downloading my first book. I was going to try to download it to my Ipod but that wasn't working for me so I just downloaded it to my computer. I checked out After Midnight. I'm going to keep trying to get one to download one to my Ipod and see if I can get that to work. Very neat!

Challenge 21

I was already familiar with some of these tricks. Whenever I have trouble with my computer the first thing I do is restart. Sometimes I'll do it a couple times in a day if it just doesn't seem to be working up to par after the first time. I also change the screen resolution everytime I work on payroll. I did like the keyboard shortcuts and have been trying to remember the copy one for some time. Thanks Emily!

Challenge 20

I agree with everyone else about OSSwin. It is alot of information but it does seem to have some helpful things hidden in all those sites. jdictionary was neat and could come in handy. It had a English and Spanish dictionary and even gave translations.

I downloaded openoffice.org(which took longer then I thought) and I am really glad I did. I think this will be very good for Brandon and Alex's school work. They can use it for regular papers and also do presentation's and it even had a sheet you could use for formula's.

Challenge 19

I already have a My Yahoo page and I love it. Change the backgrounds for each season and Holiday and add new items all the time. I have the usual weather, email easy access, and most viewed news items. I also added some personal things like comics I like to ready and pet information that changes daily. The only drawback is I think my page might actually have too much information on it. Might be time to clean it up a little.

Challenge 18

I checked out the top three Music sites. Pandora was #2!!! We've been there!!! I tried out number 1 which was lastfm.com. Very close to Pandora radio. Type in the name of an artist you like and it will give you a list of like artists, also dates of events for the artist, and a little Biography about them.

I also went to the health top three. #1 was Revolutionary Health and I wasn't impressed. I typed in Pots disease which is something my cousin just found out she had. The only that came up was articles about illegal drug use. Defianetly not what I was looking for. The #2 site is Peertrainer.com. They offer you weekly meal plans and workout tips, and the kicker it's free. I will defianetly have to try this!

Challenge 17

OK I tried to log in to download a christmas story and I have no idea what my pin number is. I guess I will wait until tomorrow and call someone at work and change it to something I can remember. I know I'm as bad as the patrons.

Challenge 16

Oh I think I could go completely crazy on photoshop. I really like all the things you can do to your photos. I added a picture of our dog Koda and played with it a little. You can make the picture any color you want and even print them afterwards. I decided on changing his picture to look like a sketch. Very neat and he looks so cute. I will defianetly add some more photos and see what else I can get from this site.

Challenge 15

Well I downloaded Google Chrome but didn't really care for it. I had a hard time figuring out the set up. I know it's sad but true. I have always used yahoo ,I know someday I will need to move up to something newer ,but for now I am happy with what I'm using. I also have my email through yahoo and it gives me a little notice down in the corner when I get a new email and I love that. I have everything on my yahoo page already set the way I like it. The weather in Bardstown, news from local to National, and of course all the celebrity gossip is right there with one click. I may try Google chrome again but for now I'm sticking with what I've got.

Challenge 13 and 14

Instructables was a good site. I looked up some recipes hoping that I can help improve my culinary skills. HA HA I think I am going to try to make the Rice Crispie Treats that I found on there. If they turn out half way decent I might bring some in. I will defianetly tell patrons about this, it could be very helpful for people wanting to try to do something new.

Hey I wasn't on the staff list. I promise I still work here! I know nobody sees me very often but I am here just back in my office making sure everything gets paid! Can I get added please? Anyway there were alot of neat links on our website. The Senior Resourses link could come in handy because we do have our share of the Senior Citizen patrons, and then of course I love Novelist. It's just not right if you don't read those series books in order.

Challenge 12

I thought the sites were pretty neat. They would be really useful for people who need an idea on how to get motivated to accomplish their goals and help push them along to the end goal. I am really one that keeps my goals to myself, which is probably why not many of them get accomplished. Maybe if I had that extra push from someone else I would be more likely to accomplish them.

Challenge 11 lmao!

I absolutely love those commercials!!!! Especially the one with the granny. Makes you realize no matter how old you are if you keep an open mind and allow change to happen you can enjoy all the new gadgets and phrases just like the younger generation! I have seen some of these like :P and BFF and my kids use snap sometimes. Oh and I heard one I really liked on a TV show last night(Grey's Anatomy maybe) chilax(chill and relax shortened into one word).
I really hope my kids don't start taling like the kids on the commercials because they'll be able to say anything and I won't have a clue what they are talking about. Maybe I should put that site as one of my favorites just in case!!! HA HA

Challenge 10

I had alot of fun with this challenge. I really liked the IMDB search. I liked watching the trailers of the new videos that are coming out. I think I've already seen 3 or 4 different trailers for the new Twilight. It really looks like it's going to be awesome! The I looked up Matthew McConaughey. He's one of my favorite actors but I did not realize some of the movies hes been in the past. He was in Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1994 and he was also the first pick to play the lead in Titanic. Kind of glad he didn't do that one actually. Leonardo was great! It just has so much information!
The Allmusic site was good but I think there are way to many different genres and sub-genres. Gets kind of confusing to me.
I believe these sights would be helpful for looking up a movie for a patron but I think I would rather just search for it on Amazon.

Challenge 9

This was the first time I have been to the new Vault Database. It really had a lot of information. I think we could really use the sample resumes for our patrons. You all know how many people we get in that have no idea how to even start a resume and really just want someone(us) to do it for them. You can even search for job openings in different states by the career you would like to be in. I think this would be really good for teens also because it help them decide from the different articles what kind of career would fit them. You know how many kids start College and have no idea what they are going to major in. I really think this was a very good database for the Library to purchase.

Challenge 8

I have been to a few sites that required registering but it has been a really long time since I've had to do this. I can't even remember what the name of the site was. Anyway I did sign up at the time but if there had been bugmenot then I would of defianetly used it. I do not like to put my information out there on too many different places on the internet.
Retailmenot looked like a really good coupon site but personally I'm not a big coupon user. I did try it once upon a time but I hated going through the grocery trying to figure out what I had a coupon for and what I didn't. I will usually just look for the things on sale in the store. If I knew somone who used coupon's I would tell them about this site because it did have a lot of variety of coupons on just about anything you might want to buy.

Challenge 7

I have been signed up for the Dear Reader emails since we first got them. I don't always get a chance to read all of them but do enjoy reading bits and pieces of books by different Authors I may not have even heard of otherwise. I signed up for the Romance and Mystery books. The new book was Fiance at her fingertips by Kathleen Bacus. So far it seems interesting but probably not something I would go out and check out.
Also I recieve the Nelson County Public Library new book list. This is a really good email to get because it keeps me up on the new books coming out of the Authors I especially like and I can put them on hold.

Challenge 6

I am a huge Stephenie Meyer fan(Thank you Catherine!) so I do frequently go to her site hoping to see a post saying BOOK #5 COMING SOON!!!!! HA HA
It has helped me keep up with the trailers and events on the upcoming Twilight movie, which I really want to see. This site also has pictures of different things from her books. Pictures of the different cars Edwards gotten Bella, and pictures of the actual town of Forks as well as a few other things. Very interesting!

Challenge 5

I have actually already tried listening to the playaways. When we first got them in I checked out Danielle Steel's Bungalow 2. The whole concept of having a book on a little MP3 player all ready to go is a wonderful idea but I personally am not big on listening to a book. I would much rather sit on the couch all rapped up in my warm blanket and read. It would be even better if I had a fire place to sit by. I never finished listening to the whole book but I think I will give it another try with a different book. Maybe while I'm on that dreaded treadmill later tonight.

Challenge 4

Well I finally got around to trying out pandora's radio. I think that is a great site! It lets you pick what you want to hear and keep the songs you don't like off your station. Kind of like an online Ipod! HA HA
Being a Country music fan my first choice was Josh Turner. I then got alot of other Country artists on my station as well. There were some new singers like Derks Bentley and Brad Paisley and some older singers like Jo Dee Messina. I liked all the other choices that they gave me and added them all to my station. I will defianetly be listening to this more often.

Challenge 3

I decided to look up information on the disease my aunt had Multiple Sclerosis. There are so many sites to look at but alot of them just state the same things. One site I really liked and had more on their site then most was
www.nationalmssociety.org

The next site I thought had a lot of information but wasn't quit as in depth as the first site was www.mayoclinic.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/DS0018

The one I liked the least that just seemed to repeat the same information over and over was www.answers.com/topic/multiple-sclerosis

The amount of sites and information you can find on the Web is so overwhelming it's impossible to be able to look at everything that comes up.

Challenge 2

I hate to admit this but I'm not real big on following politics. I like to find out the basics about each candidate and then I make my decision. I don't watch the debates and read everything in the Newspapers. Honestly I just don't have the time to follow all of it. With that being said I like the googlelabs "In Quotes" site. It gets straight to the point and it puts them side by side to make it easy and quick to find out what you want to know about each candidate.

Challenge #1 complete!!!!!!

OK I think I finally completed one challenge! It was almost painless except I did forget my password, therefore having to go thru the whole process of getting a new one. Having finally accomplished the new password I did add some photos from Disney World! Check them out!
